KATE PALMER

ART THERAPIST  | SOCIAL WORKER

Kate has experience in working across most chronic and acute health conditions, paediatric oncology and mental health during her tenure at Royal Children Hospital, Lady Cilento (Queensland Children's Hospital),the Mater Hospital, and currently as the clinical manager and owner of Creative Understanding.  Kate sees adolescents, young adults, couples and families. She also provides clinical supervision to other health professionals. In all the work Kate does, she strongly focuses on the patient’s needs, tailoring her practice to meet the needs of the client and moving at the pace that the client sets. It is very much a collaborative process, and one that cannot be rushed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Kate is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Art Therapist. Kate is a Senior Social Worker and has been working in the field of health since 2010.

Kate has a Masters Degree in Mental Health, majoring in Art Therapy from the University of Queensland as well as Bachelors of Social Work also from the University of Queensland.  Kate is also trained as an Acceptance and Commitment Therapist (ACT) and has completed workplace training and experiential clinic in Family Therapy (under the guidance of Family Therapist Prof. Paul Gibney). 

 

Kate worked at the Mater Young Adult as the Senior Social Worker and Art Therapist in the Young Adult Support Team. Kate developed and implemented the Art Therapy service at the Young Adult Centre and led a research project exploring the efficacy of using Arts based groups with young adults.
